Oral presentation

                     My presentation topic is about female authority in the USA . Why I choose this topic is that I want to figure out the female 's right in the past American . After I have read the novel “The house on Mango Street” , I find out that women don't have their right to do what they want . They are beaten , control and lost their freedom . Moreover , I want to figure out how it affect the society and the culture at that time compared with the situation nowadays . Then I find information in  this link for referrence . I would find more information and do my best on the presentation day .

Week-6 -Newspaper article -Beloved pets everlasting?

                                                                     Summary
           With the development of technology , you can create your pet by nuclear DNA and money . Missy 1.0 , Mira and MissyToo 's “genetic donor ” , was Mr . Hawthrone 's mother 's dog . Mira and MissyToo live with Mr .Hawthorne . Missy is a eugenic dog , she has superior intellect ,beautiful and obedient . Although the clones had the same nuclear DNA as Missy , they were born moths apart and none are fully grown yet . As that reason , the clones vary in size and color ;And their behavior only have 77 percent similar . Since some of the discrepancies , the bidder was not so satisfying about the result . As the behavior of clone is not so similar to the beloved dog which have already died . However , that technology is still controversial
                                                                 
                                                              Personal response

            Undoubtedly , that technology is not highly developed . It has still hazard to fail potentially .Therefore , I totally object people to reproduce their pets . Firstly , that pet will not be the one you are familiar with . Secondly , it only will make you more upset and miss the pet which passed way .Moreover , I feel so scary that some scientists want to use this technology into human reproduction . Sometimes , what human do is so horrible . If human being keeps on abusing the technology , it may harm ourselves eventually for a return.

Week 6 -Sally for The House On Mango Street

If I were Sally , I think she would write about her wretched life . The reason why I choose that character is that she is a bombshell ; Therefore , we guess that Sally may have a happy life because of her appearance .However , her appearance caused her pathetic life .
If I were Sally , I would write  why I have to obey what my father said ”beautiful is trouble ” . Why I have to be beaten if my father catch my looking sideways at a guy . Why he behaved so cruel and irrational ? He behaved like that because her sister who he feels shamed the family by running away from home and his strict religion . I want to be the girl like others .Hanging out with friends ,dancing or to do what the other girls will do . That is the thing I want to write about if I were Sally .

Week-5 At Cholera Epicenter in Haiti ,Fear and Misery

                                                                  Summary
 In Haiti ,Capital Braces for a Cholera Outbreak . Some patients only treated with clean water mixed with sugar and salt .Moreover , the living conditions in the tent and tarp is unhygienic .Haitian authorities ensured that that they will supply chlorinated water , to clean latrines and educate people how to prevent that .
                                                              Opinion
 e spread of Cholera is so fast and it kill thousands of people in a month .The government should supply the basic need and heal them with a proper treat .Otherwise , the condition of Cholera will out of control .

Character Trait -The pearl -John steinbeck

         The character I want to talk about is Kino . Kino is not so complicated and he is a simple man. He loves his family Juana and his son,. Coyotito. Although he is poor , he feels satisfied . Everything was changed after kino found a pearl . Kino begins to covet material wealth and education for his son, his simple existence becomes increasingly complicated by greed, conflict, and violence.  His life is reduced to a basic fight for survival. Moreover , his wife warned that the pearl would cause the danger to the family but he ignored it .When he described that Juana wanna to throw the pearl , he kicked her. At that time ,he thought that money is important than anything .Because of it , I couldn’t find anything to admire him . I hoped Kino would remember the day of his peaceful life . You will be delighted even though no money. That is the thing I want to change. In the other way , I feel sympathy with his situation which everyone is the enemy to rob the pearl . He was living in the great fear circumstance .However , I will keep on reading and hope that Kino will discover that family is important than everything.

Week-3 US rescue forces may have killed abducted Briton

 British aid worker may have been killed by American rescuers .Norgrove ,36 , who worked on a U.S.-funded aid project for Development Alternative Inc. , was abducted on Sept.26 . NATO said that Norgrove died when her captors detonated a bomb as NATO forces moved in to free her. However , a NATO commander ,David Petraeus , informed that Norgrove may have been killed by a grenade detonated by s member of the U.S. special forces rescue team .The rescue mission leader spoke with Petraeus , who requested a full investigation . David Petraeus promise that he will do everything to investigate the facts and give her parents the answer .


                                                                        OPINION

It is a tragedy .Whether Norgrove was killed by US rescue forces or Taliban captors need to investigate . If it is US rescue forces ‘ fault , they must be take disciplinary action . Moreover , NATO should examine the condition of the captors before moved in to free the girl and don’t make the mistake again. However , if the girl was killed by a grenade by U.S. special forces rescue team . That is the thing we can not endured . I hope Prime Minister will give us the answer after investigation .

Novel: The Pearl

                                                              The Pearl

John Steinbeck have written a total of twenty-seven books and The Pearl is one of the famous novels. The story took place a long time ago .Chapter one of the story best describes the settings . The main character is Kino which is a fishermen . Kino has a wife called Juana and his baby called Coyotito. They lived in a Brush house nearby GULF . I guess that the story begins on a very early morning as the stars still shone .Kino awakened in the dark and Juana got up and goes to check on her son and make a corncake as usual .Kino sang a song which is clear and soft .The atmosphere which the writer created was peaceful at first. The atmosphere was changed after the scorpion appered. Coyotito was stang . They realized that the doctor would never come because they were poor. However , the only way they could do was finding a docter and requested for a help. The doctor was cruel and the only thing they could see was money . Whether the baby will survive or not arousing my interest. Will they become affluent one day ? I will keep on reading to find out the ending.

Week-2 News-San Francisco considers banning Happy Meals toys

                                                                    SUMMARY

A proposal was suggested to ban McDonald for putting toys in Happy Meals in SAN FRANCISCO unless it contains fruit and vegetable and restrict calories. Supervisor Eric Mar state that the law protect the health of constituents. However, McDonald hold the aggressive attitude to fight the measure and oppose that it block the business model and the choice of customers. Another area, Mayor Gavin Newsom set up a law to ban sweetened beverages such as Coca-cola from selling machines on city property. Although he was attacked by the opponent ,he still insist on imposing a fee to McDonalds. Tony Winnicker ,a Newsom spokesman, illustrate that it is not a good time to collect more fees avnd taxes. Supervisor aqqqqqqqqqq Maxwell asked Cynthia Goody which the McDonald’s nutrition director what foods can lower down the rate of obesity. After all ,Goody need some research to support before answering it.

                                                    Personal response

In my opinion, banning Happy Meals toys is not a efficacious ways. Actually , I don’t think banning Happy Meal can prevent the people from eating McDonald. However, I agree that the Happy Meals should add fruits and vegetable instead of French fries because it is not healthy to kids. Collecting more taxes from McDonald maybe the effective way to decrease the number of people eating fastfood.;However , it would limit the choices of customer. As everyone have choice to eat what they like. The government can not overpower everyone. However , The news arouse me a question why the government don’t ban the McDonald directly but to ban the Happy Meal toy. Perhaps , closing all the fastfood shop can be the better way.

introduction of myself

            Welcome to the Francis's blog. It is the first post in my blog. So, let me to introduce myself first. As you know,my name is Francis.  Chinese name is 黃競彥 . I was born in Macau and live there for seventheen years. Actually, do u know where is Macau.  As some of my friends are not come from China ,they may not know where it is. Anyways,Macau locate on the south of China.  If you go to Macau by ship from Hong Kong ,it just only take one hour. Besides, i come from single parent family.  My dad passed away when i was six.  I have a younger brother and he is sixteen now.  My Mom is a teacher in  secondary school . Although my family is not affluent , i can feel the warm inside the family.

            I speak Cantonese and a little bit Mandarin    . I live in the studio so it is so close to the school, My favorite subject is Business .  Unfortunately, I can not take it because of the english level. It is not high enough .  My least favorite subject is humanity. It sucks. My goal is to get a enough GPA to enter the Texas University.  My friends in Macau called me "potato" in Chinese . As the pronounceation of Francis is similiar to potato. I really like photography so I always search the newest information about the DSLR . I hope one day i can afford to buy one but it is still have a long way to go.
